6 Signs Your Dryer Vent Is Overdue
Most homeowners don't know their vent is clogged until something goes wrong. These are the signals to watch for.
Clothes take two cycles to dry
The clearest sign. When your dryer can't exhaust heat efficiently, moisture stays in the drum. If a normal load takes more than one cycle, your vent needs cleaning.
Dryer or clothes feel unusually hot
Excess heat with nowhere to go backs up into the drum and housing. Clothes that come out too hot to handle — or a machine that's hot on the outside — indicate restricted exhaust airflow.
Burning smell during operation
A musty or burning smell when the dryer is running is a serious warning sign. Lint in the exhaust path can reach temperatures that cause smoldering. Stop using the dryer and call for an inspection.
