Bellevue Chimneys Deserve a Closer Look
Bellevue's 1970s–2000s homes frequently have gas inserts added to original wood-burning fireboxes — often without proper relining. Larger properties in Somerset and Bridle Trails may have two or three fireplaces with premium brands like Napoleon, Heat & Glo, or Montigo. We know Eastside systems well enough to inspect them properly, not just run through a checklist.
Common Chimney Issues We Find in Bellevue
What we see most often on Eastside service calls
Gas inserts fitted without proper relining
Many Bellevue homes had gas inserts added to original masonry fireboxes — sometimes without installing a correctly sized stainless liner. This creates venting problems that may not be obvious until we inspect.
Creosote in neglected secondary fireplaces
Guest bedrooms and lower-level fireplaces in larger Bellevue homes are often unused for years at a stretch. Untouched creosote from the last burning season still needs to be cleared before use.
Cap and crown deterioration
Older masonry chimneys from the 1970s and 80s show frequent crown cracking and corroded caps — both allow moisture into the flue, leading to liner damage and spalling brick over time.
Blocked direct-vent terminations
Many newer Bellevue homes have direct-vent gas fireplaces with exterior termination caps that can be blocked by debris, wasp nests, or overgrown shrubs — restricting combustion air and venting.
Masonry cracking from freeze-thaw cycles
Exposed Eastside chimneys — especially on south-facing properties in Somerset and Eastgate — show accelerated mortar joint deterioration from decades of temperature swings.
Premium system wear and sensor drift
Napoleon, Heat & Glo, and Montigo units all have thermopile and ignition components that drift out of spec over time. Annual checks catch this before it becomes a no-heat situation in November.

What to Expect on Service Day
Thorough work, no mess, clear communication start to finish
01
Protection First
Drop cloths cover floors and furniture before the firebox opens. Our HEPA vacuum runs throughout — soot stays contained.
02
Full Flue Clean
Rotary brushes clear creosote and debris from the firebox through the smoke chamber and up the flue. We also check the cap from the roof.
03
System Inspection
We check the damper, firebox, liner, crown, and — for gas systems — the burner, pilot, venting, and controls. Photos of anything that needs attention.
04
Clear Walkthrough
Before we leave, we explain what we found in plain language and hand you a written condition report. If repair is needed, we tell you what it is and what it will cost.
